What is PRIMHD?

PRIMHD is the Project for the Integration of Mental Health Data. PRIMHD will integrate the existing Mental Health Information National Collection (MHINC) with the Mental Health Standard Measures of Assessment and Recovery initiative (MH-SMART) to form a single national data collection for mental health and addiction. The PRIMHD collection differs from MHINC because it will collect both service activity data (such as the number of community contacts made by providers with unique consumers) as well as information on outcomes at local, regional and national levels.

Why do we need PRIMHD?

• PRIMHD will enable the integration of, and access to, different types of information that can then be used by a range of stakeholders to improve service delivery for consumers.

• PRIMHD will enable a broader view of comparative services across DHB and NGO service providers, including a view of consumers’ contacts with different service providers.

• PRIMHD will provide consistency for all agencies when interpreting data definitions and applying business rules to the national collection of mental health data.

• PRIMHD will provide a consistent platform of information for analytical purposes, thereby increasing opportunities for providers and other stakeholders to share better quality information about service performance.

• PRIMHD will offer enhanced reporting that can be used at a local and national level to inform service planning activities, quality improvement initiatives and the monitoring of service delivery.

• There are limitations with the existing system (MHINC) especially in relation to the systems ability to merge and report “like” data. There is also an issue of needing to address additional information gaps.
