New Zealand Coding Conventions Information stored in most New Zealand Health Collections is captured with The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM). The Australian Coding Standards (ACS) is a coding manual that is used in conjunction with ICD-10-AM Volumes 1-4. These standards guide coders in maintaining a consistent collection of health information which means that the analysis and interpretation of data is efficient and meaningful. Because close comparisons can be made between the health experience in Australia and New Zealand, and because the endorsement for collecting health data using ICD-10-AM in New Zealand, the Australian Coding Standards must be stringently applied in coding practice. There are however a small number of standards which have been adapted to suit the New Zealand Health Collection environment. These are known as New Zealand Coding Conventions (NZCC). NZCC's are numbered using the ACS number and an additional digit to indicate that an addendum has been made. As revisions of these addenda are made, this additional digit will change to reflect the number of revisions made. All NZCC's have been ratified by New Zealand Health Information Service (NZHIS) and endorsed by New Zealand Coding Authority (NZCA).
